Virgil G. Tanner, Jr., age 92, passed away in Arlington, Texas on October 9, 2024.

A funeral mass will held Sunday, March 16, 2025 at 2 pm, at Church of the Little Flower in Evergreen with burial in Little Flower Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be in the church hall from 12 noon to 1:30 pm.  Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Virgil was born June 25, 1932, in Marksville, La. to Sylvia and Virgil Tanner, Sr., and raised in Evergreen, La.

After Graduating from Evergreen High School and LSU he served his country in the US Army for two years.  He spent several years working as a gauger in Louisiana and Texas oil fields, and later as a High School math teacher in Texas.

He kept busy in his later years reading, watching documentaries and NASCAR races, collecting model cars, spending time with family, and still looking for a good bargain until the very end.  His humor, smile, and joke (story) telling skills will be missed on holidays at the family table.

He is preceded in death by his wife, our mom and love of his life, Thelma.  Together they enjoyed finding a good bargain, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his three daughters, Sylvia Tanner, Mary Tanner, and Janice Dayrit and husband Paulito, and his four grandchildren; Paul, Jennifer, Kevin, and Zoe.  He is also survived by his sister Carolyn Rabalais and husband Ryan, brothers Lyle Tanner and wife Marion, and Michael Tanner and wife Kay, and numerous nieces and nephews.

You were loved and will be missed dearly.
