A Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas Newton will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with the Rev. Stephen Scott Chemino officiating. Burial will follow in the Pythian Mausoleum. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
Mr. Newton, age 66 of Bunkie, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at his residence.
Tom was a sweet potato farmer all his life and loved to deer hunt and spending time at the camp. The highlight of his life was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Margaret Lemoine Newton.
Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Genie Sutton Newton; his children, Jeanette Johnston (Jeff) of Grove, OK, Melissa Mayeux (Chad) of Plaucheville, Amanda Stagg (Dusty) of Mapleton, KS, and Christopher Newton of Plaucheville; his siblings, Gordon Newton (Debra) of Alexandria, Jordon Newton (Donna) of Bunkie, Sam Newton (Donna) of Evergreen, Paul Newton (Patricia) of Bunkie and Amy Newton (Chrissy) of Fredricksburg, VA; his grandchildren, Brody Mayeux, Jozie Stagg, Kali Stagg, Gage Mayeux, Muriel Johnston, Estelle Johnston, Evie Stagg, Jimmie Thomas Johnston and Wyatt Glen Stagg.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to All Saints Hospice and to Evette Coleman, Mihesa "Moe" Coleman and Megan Patterson for the loving care they gave Tom.
Friends may visit on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
Pallbearers will include: Jeff Johnston, Chad Mayeux, Dusty Stagg, Austin Doucet, Brody Mayeux, and Sammy Buller.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to St. Anthony Catholic School or M.D. Anderson Hospital.
