Obituary

Graveside services for Terry Petty, known to family and friends as Tut, will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Pythian Cemetery in Bunkie, LA at 10:30 am.  Reverend Billy Tingle will officiate.  Terry died peacefully at his home in Garland on Sunday, March 6, 2022 after a lengthy illness.  Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Terry was born in Morgan City, Louisiana on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1953.  His family moved to Bunkie when he was very young and he lived there through his graduation from Bunkie High School in 1971.  His main occupation was cross-country truck driver, and he often talked about having been to almost every state in the country, always giving details about which states had the best roads and the prettiest scenery.  When his health began to decline, he stopped driving trucks and worked on several large farms, driving tractors.  He loved the outdoors, which is probably why hunting was his true passion in life.  A longtime member of the Sugar House Hunting Club, Tut never missed an opening day of squirrel or deer season, and he certainly never missed the big supper that night, because cooking and eating big meals were also an important part of his life.

Terry is survived by two sisters, Lori Dugas (Joey) of Marksville and Phyllis Bel (George)of Lafayette and four nieces, Brandy Bel Ray and Katie Bel O'Donnell of Houston and Emilie Dugas Lafargue and Abby Dugas Ponthieux of Marksville.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mildred Petty, one sister, Sandra Petty, and one brother, Jack Petty.

The family would like to thank Traditions Hospice for their competent, compassionate service and his faithful, loving sitters: Paulette Jackson,

Lena Washington, Tracey Hayes, Meshel Molton, Althea Rodgers, Clofer Johnson, and Lisa Hester.

Friends are invited to Tut's home in Garland after the service for a celebration of his life.
