Obituary

Terry Gene Miller, born on October 18, 1941, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on February 9, 2025, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte, Louisiana surrounded by family.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Jim Miller and Winnie Andrus Miller. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Peggy Johnson Miller of Ville Platte; his daughters, Antoinette M. Acosta (Antonio) of Houston, Rhonda M. Fontenot (Richard) of Ville Platte, and Teri M. Francois (Steve) of Marrero; his grandkids, Lauren Acosta, Mallory Ashmore (Hunter), MacKenzie Maier, Madison Maier, and Lance Fontenot; his brother, Lionel Miller (Brenda) of Lone Pine; and his sister, Elaine M. O'Leary of Bakersfield, CA.

Terry packed a lot into his life. As a young dad and husband with two kids, he went back to college, then built a career with Helena Chemical. He proudly served his country in the Army. His greatest passion was his farm and his horses. Second only to his family, his pride and joy was Caddo, his world champion cutting horse.

Terry was tough as nails, stubborn in all the right ways, and had a heart full of love. He had a talent for lightening up any situation, usually with a well-timed joke or funny comment that was always spot-on. He loved rolling up his sleeves to get his hands dirty, whether it was to tinker with farm equipment, work in his garden or building furniture.

He raised his daughters to be strong and independent. He had them backing up horse trailers before they could see over the steering wheel, but also made sure their gas tanks were never empty and their cars warmed up in the morning. Terry adored Peggy. Even when he himself needed a cane for support, he made sure she had his hand to help her up a set of stairs.

Above all, Terry loved the Lord and was the spiritual backbone of his family.  It was one of his greatest honors to serve as a deacon for many years at First Baptist Church of Bunkie. He showed his faith through his actions, always there when you needed him, and would give the shirt off his back to a stranger in need. If you knew him, you loved him—and respected him.

Funeral services for Terry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Bunkie with Rev. Phillip Boone officiating. He will be laid to rest at Friendship Baptist Cemetery in Pine Prairie immediately following. Arrangements are with Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Pallbearers will include:  Lance Fontenot. Hunter Ashmore, Robby Johnson, Ben Johnson, Hunter Currie and Dwight Barnes.

Friends and family can visit on Friday, February 14, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service starts at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Bunkie.

Terry's legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
