A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Fontenot will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 7, 2023 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Morrow with the Rev. Vincent Thanaraj officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Mrs. Fontenot, age 69 of Morrow, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas.

Shirley was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.  She worked in the cafeteria at Morrow Elementary and as a seamstress in the pajama factory.  She led the exercise class at the Morrow Community Center and enjoyed having coffee and playing pokeno with her friends. Her true happiness was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Steven Michael "Mike" Fontenot of Morrow; her three sons, James Lee Franks (Rachel) of Opelousas, Michael Joseph "Joe" Fontenot (Kati) of Robertsdale, AL, and Kevin Daniel Fontenot (Amy) of Midland, TX; one brother, John Irving Franks, Jr. of Lubbock, TX; two sisters, Beulah Dykman (Ralph) of DeRidder and Ruth Finch of Vandervoort, AR; seven grandchildren, Shelby Lavergne (Chance), Logan Constantine (Sarah Fisher), Cameron Franks, Drake Fontenot, Anderson Fontenot, Ayden Fontenot, and Everett Fontenot; two great-grandchildren, Evie Lavergne and Beckham Lavergne; a special family friend, Lyn Deville of Denham Springs; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Irving Franks, Sr. and Veanna Pruitt Franks; two brothers, Raphael Franks and Curtis Fogleman; four sisters, Josephine Barrere, Lonnie Mary Ducote, Anna Franks, and her twin sister, Shirley Mae "Little Shirley" Franks; and special family friends, Jack and Dean Howard.

Pallbearers will be James Franks, Joe Fontenot, Kevin Fontenot, Logan Constantine, Cameron Franks, and Chance Lavergne. Honorary pallbearers will be Drake Fontenot, Anderson Fontenot, Ayden Fontenot, and Everett Fontenot.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Burnell and his staff, Senior Village Nursing Home, and Louisiana Hospice Palliative Care for their heartfelt and attentive care.

Friends may visit on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of rosary at 11:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Morrow.
