Sherian Hadskey Reed, 67, died on Sunday, June 27, 2010, at 9:37 A.M. in Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte, Louisiana, after a yearlong battle against cancer.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2010, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Morrow, LA. The church will open at 10:00 A.M. for visitation with the Mass beginning at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Michael Guidry officiating.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Charles W. "Woody" Reed of Bunkie; one brother, John Hadskey, Jr. and his wife, Geraldine, of Slidell, Louisiana; one sister, Diane Blanchard and her husband, Gerald, of St. Francisville, Louisiana; two sisters-in-law, Lavergne Starkey and her husband Al of Lafayette, Colorado, and Marcia Riche' and her husband, Ike, of Bunkie; one brother-in-law – Michael Reed and his wife, Connie, of Hessmer; one aunt, Mrs. Bess L. Fontenot of Ville Platte; 10 nieces and nephews; cousins; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hadskey, Sr.

She was a graduate of McKowen High School in Jackson, Louisiana. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches and a Master of Science degree in Extension Education from Louisiana State University. She was an Extension Home Economist with the LSU Agricultural Center for 37 years, beginning her Extension career in LaSalle Parish and later transferring to Avoyelles Parish where she served for 34 years as 4-H agent, home economist and Parish Chairman.

Sherian served as President of the Louisiana Association of Extension Home Economists; was a Life Member of the National Association of Extension Home Economists and a Charter member of the Louisiana 4-H Agents Association. She served on the Avoyelles Commission on Tourism and was a member of the State Atchafalaya Trace Commission.

She was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Morrow where she served as a lector and participated in bible study classes. Sherian was an avid LSU Tiger fan and loved tailgating and attending both home and away LSU games with friends to root for the Purple and Gold.

Her life was dedicated in service to others – 4-H club members and other youth, homemakers, communities, government bodies, civic organizations, and many others. She touched thousands of lives with her wonderful spirit and giving nature.

At Sherian's request, in lieu of flowers contributions can be made in her name to the fund for rebuilding the Resurrection Catholic Church in Whiteville, Louisiana, which was destroyed by a tornado on Christmas Eve, 2009.
