RUTH ANGERER MAYER
Ruth Mayer passed away peacefully at the Marliere Hospice Care Center in New Port Richey, FL on January 1, 2011 at the age of 87, while visiting her son in Florida for the holidays. She was born on January 2, 1923 in Washington, IN where she grew up. She became a Registered Nurse, enlisted and served as an Army Nurse in Okinawa, Japan during World War II. She later settled in Bunkie where she raised her family.
Ruth was an avid gardener who loved growing flowers and vegetables. She was a gifted cook who shared many recipes and cooking tips with her daughters-in-law. She loved music, enjoyed singing and playing her ukulele. She encouraged her granddaughters and great-granddaughters to do the same.
Ruth is survived by her three sons and their spouses, Steve and Nancy Grush Mayer of Baton Rouge, David and Katy Marks Mayer of New Port Richey, FL, and Guy and Regina Kojis Mayer of Bunkie. She has two granddaughters, Eve Mayer Orsburn and spouse Rob Orsburn of Dallas, TX, and Sarah Pauline Mayer of New Port Richey, FL and a great-granddaughter Mia Mayer Orsburn of Dallas, TX.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob Angerer and May Webber Angerer; two brothers, Ray Angerer and Jake Angerer; and two sisters, Helen Kiefer and Elizabeth Garbe.
A memorial service will be held at the David Haas Memorial United Methodist Church in Bunkie at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2011. Visitation with the family will be held at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m.
