Obituary

A Mass ofChristian Burial for Ronald Turner will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Church of the Little Flower in Evergreen with Rev. Stephen Scott Chemino officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Mr. Turner, age 76 of Evergreen, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023. Ron was born in Bunkie, LA on July 28 th ,1946, the third and youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Turner. On June 18 1966 he married Geneva Ann Bordelon of Evergreen, LA. at The Church of the Little Flower. They were subsequently blessed with four children.

Ronnie graduated from USL in 1970 with an engineering degree He started his professional engineering career at Jefferson Island Salt Mine, moving on to Edmundson Rice Mill in Rayne, LA. He followed with a lengthy career with Cabot Corporation in Ville Platte and Franklin, LA as the Maintenance Engineer then Safety and Environmental Specialist. During his tenures in Ville Platte and Franklin he volunteered his services to local fire departments as a professionally trained EMT where over a course of several years he saved many lives. Ron later became City Manager for the city of Opelousas, the position he held when he retired.

Ron was an active member of the Knights of Columbus 2395 and was a 4 th Degree Knight.  He was very proud of his K of C membership and charity fundraising. Ron's greatest attribute was once he met someone, he never forgot their name or their face; they became a friend for life. His kindness and thoughtfulness were beyond reproach. It is a well-known fact that he could walk into any room, in any town, and know someone there.

Ron loved his family dearly. His children and grandchildren all looked forward to weekly calls just to check in to see how they were doing. If he could not be in attendance at one of his grandchildren's games or events, he made sure to call or text for updates so that he could express his pride in them. He was always up for a celebration and made sure that his loved ones felt special, whether a birthday or graduation or just because. He could always be counted on to liven up a get- together with his antics.

Everyone who knew him, knew he was fond of reminding everyone of his greatest accomplishment - being part of the Baronettes with their classic recording of "Guardian Angel" - often offering autographed copies.

He spent most of his professional and personal life in service to the safety and wellbeing of his community through numerous professional, civic, and church organizations. He was a friendly and cherished man to every community to which he belonged, always ready and willing to offer a helping hand or a needed smile and laugh. It is impossible to measure how he will be missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Lloyd, Sr. and Mary Alice Giglio Turner; half-brother, Floyd Havard; and nephews, Gerard Moreau and Ernest Bordelon. Survivors include his wife of 56 years; Geneva Bordelon Turner of Evergreen; his sons, Jason Turner and wife Mary of Franklin and Robert Turner and wife Hannelore of Houston; his daughters, Christine Young and husband Robert of Sacramento, CA and Rebecca Dubois and husband Jeremy of Lafayette; sister, Judy Ann Fontenot of Bunkie,  brother, Lloyd Turner, Jr. of Covington; grandchildren, Madison Turner, Meredith David, Jackson Dubois, Amelia Dubois, Anika Turner and Jonas Turner; and great-grandson, Dexter Alfano. He will also be missed by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. with a rosary at 12:00 noon. Music for the funeral mass will be provided by Gregory and Christine Dubois.
