A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with the Rev. Stephen Scott Chemino, V.G. officiating. Burial will follow in the Gates of Heaven Mausoleum in Bunkie. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
Raymond John Pujol left this earth in peace in his home with his family nearby on Monday, October 12, 2015. He was 89.
Ray was born in New Orleans on January 30, 1926. A member of the Greatest Generation, he joined the U.S. Navy immediately after graduating from high school and served during WWII in the Pacific Fleet.
After his service, he attended Tulane University and obtained his accounting degree in 1948. In 1953, he was granted a franchise by Western Auto and moved to Bunkie, LA where he resided until his death.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Baptiste Pujol and mother, Vera Comarda Pujol.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ethylene Williamson Pujol; his brothers, John and wife Judy of Jacksonville, FL and Noel and wife Elizabeth of Decatur, AL.
He is also survived by his children; Sherrie Desmond and husband Tom of Ashville, NC, Chris Pujol and wife Carol Fillette of Cottonport, Craig Pujol and wife Mary of Bunkie, Timmy Pujol and wife Patrice of Maurepas, Joe Pujol and wife Kelley of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Joy LaHaye and husband Jeff of Naperville, IL.
He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren; Todd Voltz, Kettye Juge, Amber Desmond, Shawn Pujol, Paige Callegari, April Pujol, Mandy Guillory, Nick Pujol, Blake Pujol, Jacques Bourgeois, Andre' Pujol, Allie Pujol, Jacie Pujol and Carly Pujol, in addition to 18 beautiful great-grandchildren.
Raymond was a lifetime member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Bunkie where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and in other ministries. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus rising to the level of 4th degree Knight. He was a member of the Bunkie Lions Club, and a founding member, director and past president of the Avoyelles Country Club. He was named Businessman of Year in 1979 by the Bunkie Chamber of Commerce.
He will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 409 St. John St., Bunkie, LA 71322.
