A funeral service celebrating the life of Peggy "Gran" Townsend will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 31, 2025 at the First Baptist Church of Bunkie.  A private family burial will be held at Pythian Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Peggy Ann Ruby Townsend passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Peggy was born to Myrtle Bowman Ruby and John Elliot Ruby on February 12, 1938 in Wells, TX.  She graduated from Wells High School and went on to earn a degree in Business from Piney Woods Business School.  Later in Bunkie, LA, she became the owner of a Sears Catalog Store.  As a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Bunkie, she served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher.

In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Peggy also loved gardening, tennis, camping, taking pictures of her many adventures, sending postcards to her granddaughters, and playing cards and board games.  She loved any activity that gathered family and friends together for fellowship and fun.

In 1960, Peggy met Marion Townsend, a match truly made in heaven. They married on September 17, 1960 and were blessed with three sons: Thomas and his wife Sandra of Baton Rouge; Byron and his wife Suzannah of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; Ralph and his wife M'Lee of Abita Springs.  She is survived by her three sons, granddaughters, Isabelle and Ella Townsend; step-grandsons, Alex and Harrison Fruge; siblings James Ruby (Anna Lee) and Mathilda "Tillie" Young; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Marion "Gray" Townsend; her parents, and her sister Judith "Judy" Huggins.

Friends may visit on Monday, March 31, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon at the First Baptist Church of Bunkie.
