A Mass of Christian Burial for Nettie B. Nek, 90, will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 in St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Reverends Thomas Paul and Irion St. Romain will be officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery #1. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie and Hixson Brothers Marksville.
Nettie died peacefully at the Camelot Nursing Home in Broussard, LA on January 1, 2017, where she had been a resident for the past 2 ½ years.
Nettie Bordelon Neck is survived by her sons; Bruce (Janine) of Lafayette, their daughter Alyssa (Caleb) Faul of Lafayette; Van (Cyd) of Lafayette, his sons, Brook and Kyle of Lafayette; Clyde (Aggie) of Marksville, their children, Troy (Kim) of Baton Rouge, Millie (Don) Moran of Spring, TX and Stuart Neck of Spring, TX.
She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, Ali, Abby, Jarett, Collin, Jean Paul, Alexander, and Paisley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Volice; her parents, Robert and Norma Bordelon; and her siblings, infant brother, Adley, Belton and Bryan Bordelon and Jeanette Lacombe.
Nettie was born August 26, 1926 to Norma and Robert Bordelon of Marksville. After completing high school in 1944, she attended Spencer Business College in Baton Rouge. Upon obtaining certification, she began working as secretary for the State Agriculture Extension Service. While working at Lewis Roy Motors, she met and married the late Volice Neck in 1945. She then worked for Avoyelles Parish Superintendent of Education, Louis Cayer. In the mid 1950's, Nettie began her floral career opening Neck's Flower Shop. She was a licensed florist for over 30 years, a member of the Louisiana State Florists Association, Marksville Home Demonstration Club (50 years), Homemakers Cookbook Club, and the St. Joseph's Ladies Altar Society (50 years).
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Troy, Stuart, Brook and Kyle Neck, Lonnie Bordelon and Caleb Faul. Honorary pallbearer will be Reed Chenevert.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff for the care and attention given to their mom during her stay at Camelot of Broussard.
