Funeral services for Nell Reed will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016 in the chapel of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie with the Rev. Stephen Scott Chemino, V.G. officiating. Burial will follow in the Pythian Mausoleum. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Mrs. Reed, age 88 of Bunkie, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Grace Home in Alexandria.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman A. Reed; her parents, Melvin and Lorena Doucet Ortego; an infant son; and her siblings, Elvin Ortego, Joyce Lafleur, Gladys Buller, Nelson Ortego, and Wilfred Ortego.

Survivors include her children, Fernell Cryar and husband Richard of Mandeville, Sarah Hall and husband Dale of Collierville, TN, Phyllis Eckerdt and husband Tom of Ft. Collins, CO, and Melvin Reed of Bunkie; two sisters, Velma Richard of Opelousas and Priscilla Lafleur of Ville Platte; her grandchildren, Mary Katherine Cryar, Christopher Cryar, Ian Cryar, Erin Hegedus and husband Eric, Adam Hall, Emily Hall, Chase Eckerdt, Mackenzie Eckerdt, Madison Eckerdt, James Reed, Jalyn Plaisance and husband Alan, Cameron Reed and Lance Reed; and her great-grandchildren, Liam, Cohen, Preston, Luke, Caleb, and Sienna.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters.

Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
