IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mamie Dalgo
Juneau
July 13, 1931 – March 26, 2023
Mamie Mary Dalgo Juneau, 91, departed this earth on March 26, 2023, leaving behind son Gary Juneau (Sue), sister/soulmate Ollie Dalgo Kern, sister Jeannette Dalgo Mills (Edwin) and brother Pete Dalgo.
Mamie was preceded in death by her younger son Michael "Mike" James Juneau Sr. (Ethel), mother Lucille Dupuy Dalgo, father Edward Dalgo, and husband Elson Juneau, plus 12 siblings: Lucille (George), Louis (Williemae), Azamae (Joseph Sr.), Joseph Sr. (Olanton), Milton Sr. (Bonnie), Marshall (Virgie), Wiltz (Lois), Virginia (Melvin), Ronald (Julie), Ona, and twins who died at birth.
Born July 13, 1931, Mamie was the oldest of 13 children, with three older half-siblings. Her younger years were filled with the chaos a large family naturally brings, but also laid the foundation for unbreakable bonds between herself, her siblings, and, later, many of their own children and grandchildren. She was a natural leader without being overbearing, wanting only the best for those she loved and always looking out for others before herself.
In her adult years, Mamie focused much of her attention on helping to raise Dennis and Brandy, the children of her closest sibling, Ollie.
Mamie loved her family most, but also indulged in simple joys like card games, dominoes, bingo, and casino slots. She loved game shows and TV series like The Golden Girls and Unsolved Mysteries, which she shared with her grandkids. She was a great cook, with a special talent for "grease gravy," biscuits (dipped in cream-and-sugar-filled coffee!), fried chicken and more.
Aside from her living immediate family, Mamie is survived by grandchildren Billy Juneau, Michael "Little Mike" Juneau Jr. (Victoria), Deana Juneau, Jennifer "Jenny" Juneau Haupt (Joshua), and Robert "Bobby" Juneau (Melissa), plus nieces and nephews including Dennis Williams (Kim), Brandy Dalgo Edwards (Joey), Christina Edwards, Katelynn Edwards, Janice "Jan" Mills Pepiton (Charles), Ona Rachal Herbold (Donnie), Ruth Guillot Comeaux (Wayne), and Jill Pepiton Deville (James).
Mamie was also blessed with several great-grandchildren including Jessica Juneau Jones (Christopher), Brooke Juneau, Chayse Juneau, Logan Juneau, and Norah Haupt, plus great-great granddaughter Leila Jones. She leaves behind many more extended family members and friends, including Lenny Pitcher, whose lives she impacted greatly. Mamie's quiet strength will be remembered by all who loved her.
Visitation will commence at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Hall in Dupont, La., with a rosary recited at 11 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Plaucheville.
