Funeral services for Leona "Sis" Dunbar will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023 in the chapel of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.  Burial will follow in the Bayou Rouge Baptist Cemetery in Evergreen.  Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Ms. Dunbar, age 96 of Evergreen, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at her residence.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Annie Blalock Dunbar; her sister Ione D. Reed Williams and her brother, Irvin Dunbar.

Survivors include her nephews, Paul Reed and wife Elizabeth of Bunkie; her nieces, Debbie R. Bain and husband Buster of Alexandria, Pat D. Edwards and husband Cobran of Tupelo, MS, Judy D. Bordelon and husband Danny of Lake Elsinore, CA and Susan D. Quebedeaux and husband Dwayne of Lafayette; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will include:  Benjamin Bain, Brian Bain, Craig Laborde, Gary Carter, David Canal, Tommy Vise, Jon Hale and Carlton Townsend.

The family would like to thank Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, her long-term caregiver Nicole Madrigal along with Renee Firmin, Sandra Speer, Linda Mayeaux and Charlie Floris for the exceptional care and compassion they gave to Leona.

Memorial may be made in memory of Leona to:  St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital or The Wounded Warrior Project.

Friends may visit on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
