Katie Hoyt Mott died Saturday, January 1, 2022 at 10:15 a.m., with her family members surrounding her. She was 98 years of age at her passing.

Mrs. Mott was preceded in death by her husband:  William Lewis Mott, III; her parents, James Percy Hoyt and Susan Blackwell Hoyt, her sisters, Ollie Hoyt Voorhies and Faye Hoyt Guinn, her brothers:  James Percy [Jimmy[ Hoyt, Jr., Hines Wilbur [Bill] Hoyt, and her son-in-law, Richard George Odom.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Kay Moriarty [Richard]; her granddaughter, Jennifer Odom White, her grandson, Richard Travis Odom [Shanti], step-grandchildren, Richard Moriarty, Jr., Mary Moriarty Branch, and Cullen Kramer Moriarty [Kelly].  In addition, she was survived by her great-grandchildren:  Samuel Travis Odom, Isaac Marc Odom and Judah David Odom, Shelbie Alexis Moriarty, and Lydia Townsend Branch.

Mrs. Mott was born in Simpson, LA, but grew up in Cheneyville, LA.  She attended Cheneyville High School, where she was valedictorian of her graduating class.  She attended LA College and received a B.S. Degree from there in 1943, the year of her marriage to William Lewis Mott, III.  For over 30 years she taught home economics in the Rapides Parish school system in Cheneyville, Lecompte and Rapides High School.  During those years she taught countless students the art of sewing, cooking and caring for a home.  She was also noted for her superb pecan pie, which her son-in-law claimed was the absolute very best.  In addition, Mrs. Mott loved to quilt, needlepoint and sewed in a professional manner.  Each year her counted cross-stitch Christmas tree ornaments depicting a scene from an event happening that year, leaves behind a legacy of history that will live on for generations to come. In addition, Mrs. Mott authored a genealogical history of the "Hoyts, A Louisiana/Canada Connection", a treasure trove of history relating to this large pioneer family of Louisiana, a work that took her 16 years to complete.

Mrs. Mott was a long-time member of Beulah Baptist Church in Cheneyville, LA where for years she was involved in arranging the altar flowers for services, as well teaching Girls Auxiliary for the church.  She was a member of the Lecompte Garden Club for many years.

From a very large family, Mrs. Mott was the beloved "Aunt Katie" to so many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

For the latter part of her life, Katie's needs were lovingly attended to by a wonderful group of ladies including Rosa Veal, Debra Marks, Diane Mayeux, Robin Blankenship, Barbara Bowie, Allegiance Hospice staff members and many others. The family is most grateful for their combined efforts.

Honored to serve as pall bearers are:  Samuel T. Odom, Isaac M. Odom, Cullen K. Moriarty, Russell Haggart, Shane Hoyt, Kurt Vanderlick.  Honorary pall bearers:  John Maxie Chevalier and Judah D. Odom.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to:  Beulah Baptist Church, P. O. Box 356, Cheneyville, LA 71325, or Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery Fund, P. O Box 223, Cheneyville, LA 71325; or a charity of choice.
