June 21, 1947 – October 15, 2024
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Pickett, Jr. will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 18, 2024 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Morrow with Rev. Vincent Thanaraj officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
Born and raised in Morrow, LA, Joseph grew up on a working farm of crops and animals. He worked as a farmer all his life. He loved his family with all his heart and cared for everyone. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at the age of 77.
He married his second wife, Claudia on April 4, 1975. He had 2 children from a previous marriage and went on to have 2 other children with his second wife. He was a volunteer fireman for District 5 Fire Dept and a member of the board for Morrow Water System.
He enjoyed spending time with all his family and friends. He enjoyed cooking, eating and life in general.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Claudia Duckworth Pickett of Morrow; four children, Melissa Pickett Leger of Morrow, Daniel Pickett (Jennifer) of Alexandria, Krystal Pickett Dupre of Morrow and Michelle Pickett Estave (Courtney) of Baton Rouge; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; a sister, Virginia Dale Lejeune of Brusly; a brother, Thomas Ardie Pickett (Katherine) of Morrow and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents; Joseph Albert, Sr. and Dorothy Parsons Pickett; sister, Lori Pickett Olivier; and two grandsons, Joshua Lane Pickett and Christopher Boudreaux.
Pallbearers will include: Jacob Leger, Matthew Pickett, Tyler Pickett Jermey Babineaux, Drew Duckworth and Cody Duckworth.
Friends may visit on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of rosary at 11:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
