Graveside services for John Merritt will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Cason Family Cemetery in Lebeau with Bro. Brian Johnston officiating.  Burial will follow.  Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Mr. Merritt, age 71 of Lebeau, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the Kinder Retirement Nursing Home.

He was retired after 30 years in the meat packing industry.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Rudolph and Claudia Slayter Merritt and his in-laws, Kirtman and Irene Cason.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Vernie Cason Merritt of Washington; his son, Travis Merritt and wife Betsy of Bell City; a brother, Donald Merritt of Gardner; and his grandchildren, Claudia Rose, Emma Grace, Hunter Tash, Hayden Scott, Jackson Elijah, and Kaitlyn Alexandra.
