Jan Nugent
Corley
Jul 13, 1954 — Aug 28, 2026
Cheneyville
Monday
Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery
11:00 am - 12:00 pm (Central time)
Jan Nugent Corley, 72, of Cheneyville, Louisiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 28, 2026. She was born July 13, 1954, in Alexandria, to Ralph and Mary Lea Nugent, and spent her life to selfless service to Jesus, her family, and everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Jan was a devoted wife to her husband of 43 years, the late Henry Corley, and together they built a life and a successful sugar cane farm. She was the matriarch of both the Nugent and Corley families, and steady center that everyone gathered around. Steadfast and strong, she was the person everyone counted on, no matter the circumstance.
Her relationship with Jesus always came first, followed closely by her family. She taught 2nd-grade Sunday school at Calvary Baptist Church for many years and shared her faith not only in the classroom but also in the way she lived every day. From her time on the Tioga basketball court to her days playing at Louisiana College, Jan truly loved the game. She loved all sports, and there was no place she would rather be than cheering in the stands watching her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews play. “Never give up on family”, she always said, and she never did.
She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband and best friend, Henry Corley, and her granddaughter, Lauren Vaughn, at a graveside service in Pineville, LA, at Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery on Monday, August 31, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Jonathan Murphy officiating.
Jan is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Corley; her granddaughter, Lauren Vaughn; her parents, Ralph “Tinker” and Mary Lea Nugent; and her siblings, Ralph Nugent, Jayne Driggers, Robert Nugent, Jerri Parks, and Roger Nugent.
She is survived by her children, Bridget Vaught (Wesley) of Alexandria, LA, Jeramy Lyles of Pineville, LA and Scott Corley of Lecompte, LA; her sisters, Judy Pierce (Mike) of Ball, LA and Jackie Cole of Ball, LA; her grandchildren, Graham Vaughn, Henry Hathorn Corley, Sidney Scott Corley, Raymond Reed Corley, and Charles Colton Corley and a great-granddaughter, Dani Sage Gresham, and a host of other family and friends.
Pallbearers include: Mack Cole, Trevor Daniel, Michael Long, Dustin Morrow, Jessie Tullos and Zach Tullos. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Our family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Brenda Odom, Jenni Perero, Jamie Hale, Danielle Wolfe, and the amazing staff at Compassionate Care Hospice for all you’ve done!
The family kindly requests that instead of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Lauren Vaughn Memorial Scholarship at NSULA. Checks can be mailed to 535 University Parkway, Natchitoches, LA 71497, to honor her legacy.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
