A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with the Rev. Scott Chemino officiating. Burial will follow in the Church of the Little Flower Cemetery in Evergreen. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Mr. Simmons, age 74 of Bunkie, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the Bailey Place.

D.D. retired from CLECO after many years of service. He was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus #2395, involved in the 4-H and extension service for Avoyelles Parish and he enjoyed cooking.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Emmerson and Dora Mayeux Simmons.

Survivors include his wife; Dona Firmin Simmons of Bunkie; his two sons, Donald J. Simmons and his wife Karen of Morrow, and James P. Simmons of Broussard; his two brothers, Gerald Simmons of Zachery and Gene Simmons of Kerrville, TX; his two sisters, Norma Caldwell of Prairieville and Lorraine Jackson of San Diego, CA; and his two granddaughters, Tanya Simmons and Jennifer Simmons.

Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on Thursday at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie. A rosary will be cited at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
