HOWARD LEON STURGES

Funeral services for Howard Leon Sturges will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2012 in the chapel of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home with the Bro. John Clardy officiating. Burial will follow in the Bayou Jack Pentecostal Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
Mr. Sturges, age 84 of Bayou Jack, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 15, 2012 after a brief illness with leukemia.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy, a member of the American Legion Post 305 in Morrow, LA, retired from Ethel Corporation, and an avid fisherman.
He is preceded in death by three sons, Dennis Leon Sturges, Stafford Donald Sturges and Brian Keith Sturges.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Viola Jolibois Sturges of Bayou Jack; two sons, Daryl Wayne Sturges and his wife Katie of Deland, FL, and Mark Gregory Sturges and his wife Mona of Greenwell Springs, LA; one brother, Brent Sturges and his wife Beth of IL; two sisters, Bridget Hedges and Brenda Coberly both of CA; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family offers a special thanks to Dr. Cole and the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
Pallbearers will include: Blayne Sturges, Rhett Sturges, Derek Sturges, Zachary Downs, Lloyd Jolibois and Henry Deshotel.
Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday and 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
