Obituary

Funeral services for Donald Marcotte will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026 in the chapel of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Hously officiating. Burial will follow in the Pythian Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

The story of Donald Paul Marcotte begins—and forever centers—around the greatest love he ever knew: his wife, Henrietta Marcotte. For 65 beautiful years, she was his partner, his joy, and his unwavering companion. Their bond was the foundation of his life, the source of his strength, and the heart of every choice he made. Today, as we honor his remarkable journey, we find comfort knowing he is now reunited with the love of his life in heaven, where their devotion continues without end.

He lived 87 years with a spirit that was larger than life. He was the life of the party, a man whose humor, quick wit, and warm smile could brighten any room. If he loved you, you had a nickname—each one a personal badge of affection that made you feel cherished and claimed as his own.

A man of extraordinary energy and grit, he was still driving, tending to 56 head of cattle, and keeping his land spotless well into his late years. He fished, hunted, gardened, and worked with a pride that defined him. Clean, organized, and meticulous, he believed that caring for what you have reflects who you are.

He was the patriarch of our family, the steady center we all leaned on. His love for his family was unconditional and everlasting. Every child, grandchild, great‑grandchild, and great‑great grandchild felt like his favorite. His heart was enormous, and he gave every piece of it away gladly.

His legacy is one of strength, humor, hard work, and boundless love—rooted in the devotion he shared with Henrietta and carried forward through every generation of his family.

Donald is preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years; Henrietta Bundick Marcotte; his parents, Edwin J. and Frances Carmouche Marcotte; and his brothers, Louis Marcotte and D.J. Marcotte.

Survivors include his children: Paula M. Savage (Terell) of Bunkie, Suzie M. Fontenot (Jeffrey) of Bunkie; and Chris Marcotte (Brenda) of St. Landry; his sister, Carol M. Johnson (Edward) of Lone Pine; his grandchildren, Eryn Dopson, Scotty Fontenot, Bliss Fontenot, Desiree Brunet, Dylan Marcotte and Harlee Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Kaden Dopson, Kole Dopson, Knox Dopson, Trevor Dupuy, Shyanne Fontenot, Landon Fontenot, Bella Fontenot, Dixie Brunet, Charlee Brunet and Paesley Marcotte; and two great-great-grandchildren, Tyler Dopson and Rocky Dupuy.

Pallbearers will include: Kaden Dopson, Kole Dopson, Knox Dopson, Trevor Dupuy, Landon Fontenot, Gary Dopson, Scotty Fontenot, Dylan Marcotte and Forrest Brunet.

Friends may visit on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
