While surrounded by his family, on September 23, 2026, Clyde “Joey” Joseph Oliver, Jr., called “Dawg” by many, departed from this world at the age of 67 to rest with the Lord. A beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, he will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

He was born on December 29, 1958, in Cottonport, LA. From the beginning of his life, Joey brought love into the lives of those around him. After moving to Cameron to follow his father in the oilfield, he shifted around southwest Louisiana, marrying in 1976 and fathering two children with Debbie Oliver in the coming decade. He made regular hunting, fishing, and camping trips with his family and used his spare time to serve in his home and community.

Once Kylie, Caleb, and Lily, his grandchildren, entered the world, he became Pops. He enjoyed the same activities with them, passing down his knowledge and unique wit to the people he loved most. This impact is not contained within his family; everyone he’d meet: hunting partners, doctors and nurses, strangers, people who only shared a few words with him all knew the love and joy that overflowed from this man’s heart. He’d do anything to make someone laugh and he always knew just how to do it. He didn’t know a soul that he didn’t move.

Joey was known by his faith that persisted in everything he did. Even when he wasn’t openly expressing it by reading the Word of God or finding Christ as an answer to life’s roadblocks, his faith was evident. He spoke and acted with the confidence of a man who had assurance in the promises of the Lord, and no doubt could be seen within him.

From the time of his retirement and into the latter years of his life, he never shied away from any opportunity to help anyone by means of service, support, and comfort. He was truly one of the easiest people to love and made everyone feel like they had a shelter in him. As a father, brother, and Pops, Joey was a good man in all of his endeavors.

Joey is survived by his son, Joey Oliver and wife Miranda of Grand Lake, LA., his daughter, Wendy Boyett and husband Quin of Moss Bluff, LA., his beloved grandchildren: Kylie Oliver, Caleb Oliver, and Lily Boyett, his sisters: Christine Francois of Bunkie, LA. and Robin Cazelot of Bay Hills, LA, as well as his nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Clyde Joseph Oliver, Sr. and Jimmie Lee Oliver, his brother Charles “Mike” Michael Oliver, his brothers-in-law: Terry Francois and Bruce Cazelot, and his nephew: Chris Oliver.

His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his caring friend, Wanda Hebert, Dr. Goswami and the team at MD Anderson, Aimee Allen and Jennifer Landry at Ochsner Oncology and Associates, and Anne Marie with Heart of Hospice for the kindness, compassion, and care that they provided.

Joey will be remembered as a man who worked hard, a proud dad, Pops, and a friend to countless people. His family will miss his voice, his stories, his practical jokes, and all the laughter and love he provided. His friends will miss Dawg and all the good times that came along with him. He was deeply loved, he will be deeply missed, and he makes his family proud to be able to call him Dad and Pops.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joey Oliver will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Church of the Little Flower in Evergreen with Msgr. Stephen Scott Chemino officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
