CHESTER HEBERT
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with the Rev. Jack Michalchuk officiating. Burial will follow in the Pythian Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home in Bunkie.
Retired owner of the Amoco/Mobile Service Station in Bunkie, Louisiana, Chester Hebert, 85, passed away Monday, March 26, at Bayou Vista Community Care Center after a valiant fight with cancer. Mr. Hebert was the ninth child of the late Odilion and Anna David Hebert.
He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, as Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bunkie, as well as Past Commander and Past 8th District Commander of the American Legion. Mr. Hebert also served his Lord as an usher since 1955 for St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
He is survived by his son, Larry O. Hebert and wife, Terry, of Baton Rouge, and two daughters, Vivian H. Ortego, of Shreveport, and Eileen Hebert of Baton Rouge.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, Joseph Hebert, Benton, Louisiana; Michelle Hebert, Chicago, Illinois; Kate Wilkinson LeBlanc and husband, Carter, Prairieville, Louisiana; and Tyler Ortego, U. S. Marines stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, Dakota Hebert, Brayden Rachel, Gabrielle LeBlanc, Bryce Hebert, and Andrew LeBlanc.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Menard Hebert; granddaughter, Julie Renee Wilkinson; Crystal Hebert, spouse of grandson, Joey; and six brothers - Waldo, Rheul, Murphy, Wilson, Patrick and Odi Hebert; and three sisters, Lillies Simon, Enola Credeur, and Anna Belle Langley.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Hixson Ducote Funeral Home in Bunkie. A rosary will be sited by the Knights of Columbus at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society or Hospice Care of Avoyelles. Pallbearers will be Nephew, and members of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons, Joseph and Tyler.
