Obituary

Charles Woody Reed, age 83 of Bunkie, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at his residence. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Woody proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and was fortunate to be deployed to Germany. After returning home from the service, he and his wife Sherian purchased the Reed property where he began his life as a farmer spanning over 50+ years. Hunting was his main passion, with motorcycle riding coming in a close second. However sitting in his rocking chair with a cold Coors light, his devoted dog at his side, looking over his beautiful farmland was what made his life complete. Woody was a devout Catholic and attended St. Peter’s Church in Morrow. On Saturday June 6th Woody was a Lecture at mass for the very first time. He was so proud of himself and couldn’t wait to do it again. Although Woody never had children of his own, he treated his nephews, nieces, and their children as if they were his. From teaching them to hunt, fish, drive tractors and attending their baseball games, he loved them all very much. Woody is preceded in death by his wife; Sherian Hadskey Reed; his parents, Charles Alton and Anna Belle Lavergne Reed; his brother, Michael Reed and a sister, Marcia Reed Riche.

Survivors include a sister, Lavergne Reed Starkey (Al) of Cottonport; nieces and nephews, Courtney Viloria (Dave), Abbie Coakley (Mick), Kaycee Smith (Cody), Jake Riche, Beth Dufour (Drew) and Josh Poche (Sandy); brother-in-law, Ike Riche; sister-in-law, Connie Reed and numerous great nieces and nephews.

A private service for Woody will be held at a later date.
