A Mass of Christian Burial for Celia Halbert will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cheneyville with Rev. Dwight De Jesus officiating. Burial will follow in the Christian Cemetery in Cheneyville. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
Celia Duos Halbert left this world to be with her heavenly Father on Friday, June 26, 2026. Born on October 19, 1952, was a native of Ville Platte and a graduate of Evangeline Academy.
After graduating from Evangeline Academy, she joined the United States Air Force, serving for 4 years. After marrying the love of her life, Steve, she went on to get her college degree at Louisiana State University of Alexandria. She spent 22 years teaching at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic School where she left a lifelong impact on every child that had the pleasure of being in her 3rd grade class.
Mrs. Celia was a long-time resident of Cheneyville, where she was a devout wife, mother, grandmother (Gammy), and parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mervin and Ury Tate Duos, and her cherished companion, Ginger, her beloved dachshund.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Steve Halbert of Cheneyville; her sons, Steven Todd Halbert (Jenny) of Cheneyville, Gregory Adam Halbert of Cheneyville and Andrew Paul Halbert (Ashlee) of Lafayette; a sister Sandra Duos of Breaux Bridge; her grandchildren, Bryce Halbert, Addison Halbert, Mia Halbert, Colin Halbert, Nora Halbert, Stella Halbert, Maddox Shelton, Sawyer Shelton; and her furbaby, Milo.
The Halbert family would like to express their extreme gratitude to Heart of Hospice of Alexandria, especially Lauren Williams and Debra Lusk.
Friends may visit on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
