BERTHOL STEPHENS "BOOTS" PEARCE
Funeral services for Berthol Stephens "Boots" Pearce, 93, of Bunkie will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2011 at First Baptist Church with Reverends LaMon Brown and Carl A. Hudson officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilmer Memorial Cemetery, Lecompte. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
Mr. Pearce was born in Bunkie, LA on August 12, 1917 and passed from this life on January 11, 2011 in Bayou Vista Manor after a prolonged illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Frith and Addie Smyth Pearce, and his siblings Dorothy Barnhill Glaspie and Elma Barnhill.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Marion Reiszner Pearce; his daughters, Lander Pearce Bilbray and husband Charles of Amite, LA, and Stephanie Corinne Pearce of Leesville, LA; his son, Berthol Stephens Pearce, Jr. of Clarksville, TN; his grandsons Berthol Stephens Pearce III and wife Cathy and Stephen Scott Pearce; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will in be Dean Carraway, Thomas "Tinker" Mixon, Gerard Moreau, Michael Robertson, Peter Roy and James "D.D." Simmons. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist church and member of the Bunkie Lions Club.
Mr. Pearce was a lifelong resident of Bunkie. By his own admission, he was a "jack of all trades." He was an Army Veteran having served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Infantry. He was employed by numerous businesses beginning with his first hob at Haas Investment Department Store. He was owner and operator of Service Laundry and an automobile salesman at Mixon Brothers Buick and Johnson Chevrolet dealerships. He retired as sales manager from Pete Roy Ford. He was an active member of First Baptist Church and a Deacon for 45 years. He was a member of the Bunkie Lions Club for 53 years and won several award for loyalty and service. He was a Thirty-Second Degree Mason and a Shriner for over 60 years, a member of the Bunkie and Chicot Masonic Lodges, and was recently bestowed the honor of Chaplin Emeritus of the Bunkie Lodge. He was also an active member of Gideons International for over twenty years.
