June 9, 1950 – February 2, 2024
A Mass of Christian Burial for Alice Leger will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with the Msgr. Stephen Scott Chemino officiating. Burial will follow in the Pythian Mausoleum. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
Mrs. Leger, age 73 of Bunkie, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Bayou Vista Community Care Center.
Alice worked most of her life for the Avoyelles Parish School Board with the lunch program. She began working at Bunkie Elementary School in 1967 and finished out at Bunkie New Tech High School in 2016. Alice also worked summers at Avoyelles Youth Center and as an Avon representative from home. After retirement, she continued to share her joy of cooking for others. She was well known for her "homemade rolls", steak rice and gravy and her chicken fricassee'!! No one ever left her house hungry.
Alice was loved by many of her past "students" and she stayed in contact with those she worked with over the years. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Tennis, Sr. and Leola Gauthier Deselle; brother, Richard Deselle; sisters, Delores Hazelton, Virginia Gobert, Geneva Graham, Linda Andrus, Vivian Normand and Judy Strother; and her father and mother-in-law, Leodese and Sadie Leger.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Lester (BooBoo) Leger of Bunkie; three daughters, Karen Leger of Abilene, TX, Melissa Leger Lemoine of Alexandria and Victoria Leger (Chad) of Alexandria; two grandsons, Dustin Aymond (Angela) and Joey Baronne; two granddaughters, Alyssa Lemoine and Kathryn Wille; 3 great-grandchildren, Mailey Gagnard, Maddison and Jayden Aymond; a sister, Marianne Williber (Frankie) of Bunkie; two brothers, Russell Deselle (Debra) of Bunkie and Tennis Deselle, Jr. of TX; sisters-in-laws, Dorothy Lowe of Bunkie and Kathryn Jeansonne (Chris) of Bunkie; brother-in-law, Wayne Strother of Bunkie and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will include: Dustin Aymond, Joey Baronne, Chad Spencer, Kenny Hazelton, Kevin Jeansonne, Russell Deselle and Jamie Coates. Honorary pallbearer will be Damien Jeansonne, Frankie Williber and Wayne Strother.
Friends may visit on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
