A Mass of Christian Burial for A.J. West will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Morrow with Rev. Donovan Labbe officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Mr. West, age 23 of Lake Charles, formerly of Lemoyen, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

A man of deep faith, Alex built his life on his unwavering trust in God.  He served as a guiding light for his family and all who knew him.  The love he had for his family was so big.  He had overcome a lot of obstacles and was proud of the man he had become.  He loved fishing and hunting.  He loved to cook and had everyone tell him how good it tastes.  Alex also liked to talk about this collection of hats and knives.  He loved to drive fast and dance like a fool.

He is preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Adam Reed; paternal grandmother, Patricia Garcia; step-brother, Cody Poncho and his best friend, Jean Todd Duos.

Survivors include his wife; Kristy Mullen of Lake Charles; his step-children, Karson Joiner, Kylie Joiner and Ethan Higginbotham; his father, Archie West of Lawtell, his mother, Antoinette Reed of Lemoyen; his step-father, Curt Richard (Poppa) of Lemoyen; his siblings, Brittany West of Lafayette, Ryan Richard of Lemoyen, Torri Walls of Opelousas and Koby Deville of Eunice.

Friends may visit on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary recited by Msgr. Stephen Scott Chemino at 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

His smile would light up a room and his presence could make any heart spark.  Now he gets to share that spark in heaven.  He was such a light in this world and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
